Great food! Great price, but wait staff is seemingly very unhappy. But it's tolerable for the huge portions and no wait.
The best breakfast and pasties.
Ordered a pastie, was not impressed with the flavor. Over seasoned. My husband ordered the open face turkey sandwich, which was very good and a large serving. Would go back, but would not have a pastie!
The food was good. The service was good. They ran a out of Pasties. Otherwise good place
Down home style food, nice server
Excellent breakfast and my wife is partial to their version of a slim Jim.
The best place for breakfast in Hancock! I miss the days before the renovation - it lost a little bit of its charm, but at least the food is still delicious! Every time I stay in the area I eat here almost everyday!
Melissa treated us right. She told us how to eat a pasty like a local. Pretty good coleslaw too, eh.
Great food, good sized portions, reasonably priced. Would recommend somebody looking for a quick good breakfast. I had a specific craving for French toast this morning and it was fully satisfied.
Good French toast. Very busy on the weekend. Get their early or you will wait for a table.
Very good food. Nice ma and pop restaurant. Cute place and nice people. The bakery is the best and so are the pasties
I always enjoy it here. :)
Fries were good but burger could have been better. Think it was a patty instead of a fresh burger.
The food is always good but the waitress is usually not very friendly. They almost never come back to check on you and just plop your bill down like they can't wait until you leave.
Don't try the Finnish items. Good Pastys
Always have to visit when in the area. Love the thin-crust pasties.
Good food, large portions, great staff it's got it all
The service was good, the pasties were different than we were used to.
I stopped in on my way back to Canada, had the breakfast special. Was delicious. And the brownies and peanut butter squares are amazing
Great food, terrific hometown feel. Known for breakfast, but good Pasty too
I can't get pasty in Rochester, MN and it was a childhood favorite. The pasty at Kaleva Cafe is as close to my mom's as I've ever had (and I've had friends send them from the UP). They also have good prune tarts!
Very friendly staff and enjoyed the pasty with gravy, it was delicious! The pies are homemade and also delicious! We were here back in 2014 and enjoyed it the first time that we were up into the U.P. again that we had to make it over to get the pasty again!
Favorite place in town for Sunday brunch. Love it here.
Best food I have tasted in a very long time. Cool history, did I mention how great the food tastes. Cant wait to go back. Love at first bite!!! Bathroom is cool too.
The food and service are always excellent with good prices.
Service was slow, they waited to take orders even when we asked to order, because of that the food took a while to come out even though they were not busy (way less than half full). Food was good though.
I would have rated as a 5 star but service personnel left alot to be desired. You could say rude. Management/owners need to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with staff. How about a simple greeting with a smile... general pleasant demeanor would be appreciated. Do yourself a favor and look at the rest of the local staff-- all pretty friendly and exemplary customer service. We eat at many local establishments during our summer stays here and although the food was good and generous portions--it wouldn't be tops on our list because of less than pleasant staff encounters. Get it together!!
As always, the food at the Kaleva satisfies. Their Thanksgiving turkey plate included many of the best holiday flavors (turkey, potatoes and gravy, awedome stuffing, sweet potatoes, cooked carrots, and a slice of pie to top you off!) Service was very polite and speedy, though I felt the waitresses seemed a bit rushed with the fair amount of customers there for the holiday (to be expected, I suppose.) I will say I love the slower atmosphere on a regular weekday morning to grab their delicious breakfast plate, also, and hope to be back VERY soon!
Good old fashioned family food! We had take out, and when I arrived the food was ready and piping hot! An old timey family joint.
Very good food! Quick service! And nice people! Would definitely recommend Γ°ΕΈΛΒ
A must stop for any Houghton visit. Farmers omelet is always a great choice. So is the breakfast bowls. Pancakes are good but the specialty pancakes are worth passing over.
I went to 3 pasty restaraunts while in the U.P. and this was my favorite place for pasties. The others were really good, but this stands out because I like carrots in my pasties. They also had really great cardamom bread and cookies. I can't get back there soon enough.
The raspberry french toast is to die for! Good service, great breakfast.
My favorite breakfast spot in the Copper Country. Always great service and amazing food!
Great food! The Pancakes are amazing. Our waitress was very nice and food was served pretty quickly.
Great food reasonably priced
Ok love the food and the people who work their and great Turkey Dinners
Hot coffee and always a great breakfast at the Kaleva...a must stop in downtown Hancock...
Love it there. The best eggs Benedict I have had in a long time. All very friendly and busy. Thumbs up
Homemade biscuits and sausage gravy outstanding !! One of the BEST I've ever had.
I love their Philly cheese steak sandwiches! Quality food, okay prices but the wait is long.. I mean unless you get them for carry out and call in advance you'll be late back to work for lunch. If you're visiting and have time definitely one of the best places to eat in the Hancock Houghton area
Really good food
Breakfast was delicious! We were shocked by how generous the portions were. We'll have to come back the next time we visit Tech.
Best meal I've had all week. We will be back!
Great service and food, this is a regular for me as a college student.
I came here for lunch but I ordered breakfast. This was my first visit and and I was pleasantly surprised. The place was clean and neat, wait staff was quick and friendly and the food was excellent! I ordered the Big Breakfast. The pancakes that came with it were definitely not your average box mix and I chose rye bread for my toast. I'm pretty sure that they are home made and nearly the best restaurant food I have ever had! I definitely will be going back to Kaleva to try other menu items.
We found this restaurant 2yrs ago and haven't gone anywhere else since. Great home cooked meals and desserts. When you find something good, you stick with it.
out of pasties when we went so we ordered off the menu. everything was great! bakery items were delicious.
